Paul Richard Halmos Born on 3 March 1916, in Budapest, Hungary.  Died 2 October 2006, Los Gatos, California, United States, was a Hungarianborn American mathematician.The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics
 
Who made fundamental advances in the areas of mathematical logic, probability theory, statistics, and operator theory. Halmos is best known for his work in the field of mathematical logic, including his text, Naive Set Theory. Which has been a standard introductory text in set theory since its publication in 1960. He was also a leading contributor to the development of the field of operator theory, as well as numerous other areas of mathematics. The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics
 
Halmos was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1916. He received his bachelor‘s degree from the University of Illinois in 1935 and his doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1938. After teaching at the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois. Halmos joined the faculty at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey in 1946.
 
In addition to his groundbreaking work in mathematics, Halmos was also a prolific writer and educator. He wrote numerous books, including FiniteDimensional Vector Spaces. which is considered one of the most important texts in linear algebra. He was also the editor of the Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society. And the author of the widely readI Have a Photographic Memory
