Marcus du Sautoy is the Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science and also Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of New College. His research uses classical tools from number theory to explore the mathematics of symmetry. He applies methods from a wide range of mathematics zeta functions, algebraic geometry, model theory, analysis, Lie groups, and more. In 2001 he was awarded the Berwick prize from LMS for his mathematical research. Mathematics has beauty and romance. It’s not a boring place to be, the mathematical world. Marcus Du Sautoy was educated at Gillotts Comprehensive School and King James’s Sixth Form College (now Henley College) and Wadham College, Oxford, where he was awarded a first-class honors degree in mathematics. In 1991 he completed a doctorate in mathematics on discrete groups, analytic groups, and Poincaré series,
